Music or Podcast Streaming Buying Guide
Now you have the complete list of smartwatches that plays music and podcasts. But before you buy a smartwatch with music or podcasts, you should keep certain points in mind.
They all have high-quality sound in common–something every runner or athlete wants when they are on the go listening to podcasts or streaming their favorite tunes. It was a criterion that I used while creating this great list of smartwatches for music lovers.
Music Streaming App Support
All the smartwatches do not support all online music apps such as Spotify, Deezer, or Pandora. All the apps are not equally good. Therefore, you should first check out what streaming app does your smartwatch supports before buying it.
I am a huge fan of Spotify because of its high-quality sound and extensive music collection. Popular smartwatch brands like Samsung watches, Fitbit, Fossil, etc., support Spotify. Even Apple Watch also supports Spotify now.
If your smartwatch does not support Spotify, Deezer is another best streaming app that you should consider. It provides excellent sound quality and features to download music offline.
Price of the Smartwatch
Smartwatches with music or podcasts always come at a high price tag. If you look at Garmin, they offer many smartwatch models with and without music storage or streaming feature. Garmin Forerunner, Venu Series, and Vivoactive models come with and without music and podcast streaming capabilities.
Music Storage Capacity
Not all smartwatches have enough space to store your favorite music. So you might also want to look for the storage capacity of the watch before buying it. Because of this, I’ve only included smartwatches that can store at least 500 songs in my list of music smartwatches.
Availability of On-board GPS
If you are looking for a smartwatch for running with built-in music, go for one that has onboard GPS. Because if your running watch does not have built-in GPS, you’ll need to bring your smartphone with you.
For example, the Fitbit Versa 2 can play music and store it on your device without the need for a smartphone. However, it does not have an onboard GPS forcing you to carry your smartphone to track running metrics accurately.
When you play music, it has a significant impact on the battery life of your smartwatch. So it is necessary to check out the battery life before buying one.
If you play music, expect the watch’s charging cycle to be reduced by two days or even more depending on usage. For example, If you use Apple Watch Series 6 all day with GPS and play music for an hour, it will only last 10 hours. So, keep this point in mind before buying a smartwatch with music or podcast streaming capability.
Garmin Fenix 6 Series and Galaxy smartwatches are the best examples of smart watches with longer battery life.
