  1. My Fitbit Flex 2 does not accurately record steps when pushing a supermarket cart or riding a bicycle. Because I wear a fitness tracker for step counts, I always wear mine on my ankle.

  2. I’ve used a Fitbit Alta on my ankle because the wrist Fitbit doesn’t track steps when I walked kids in the stroller, which I do daily, nor does it track steps if pushing a cart or even if you talk on your phone while walking. I got an Inspire 2 recently and I’ve worn it on my wrist and in the clip while wearing the Alta on my ankle and the Inspire 2 logs less then 1/2 the number of steps that the old ankle one does. I did use my laptop to calibrate the Alta by walking across the backyard a few times and putting in the number of steps and the distance. I’m not a runner, just a grandmother keeping twins that just turned two. Maybe there is a better place to put the Inspire 2 on the clip – but that logs fewer steps than the wrist band.

    • Thank you, Hellmann, for your comment. Fitbit tracks steps by detecting the movements of your hands with the help of its sensors called an accelerometer. When you talk on your phone or pull a cart, it doesn’t register as many steps because you are not moving your arms and hands as much while doing those activities.
